The recording, captured at Concordia University in St. Paul, features young singers under the direction of Mark Johnson, the artistic director of the Minnesota Boychoir. Johnson noted that the project demanded more than mere technical precision from the performers, requiring them to sing with raw honesty. The initiative aims to spark a nationwide movement, challenging 250 school, faith, and community choirs to adopt the anthem throughout the anniversary year.
A National Anthem for the Next 250 Years
As the United States marks its 250th anniversary, a 91-voice Minnesota Youth Honor Choir is shifting the focus from the country's historical inheritance to its future legacy. Their new anthem, We Are Your Children, premieres July 4, serving as a melodic plea for adults to prioritize the needs of the next generation.
Grammy-nominated conductor Philip Brunelle emphasized the power of the project to foster connection, urging the public to treat the song as a genuine opportunity to listen to youth perspectives. Written by retired nonprofit founder Larry Sagen and arranged by Jason Hansen, the composition is available for free to educators and directors. The creators have committed all net proceeds from the project to nonprofit organizations dedicated to supporting youth music and leadership development, ensuring the anthem's impact extends beyond the concert hall.
