Tencent to Host 'Worlds of Play' Art Exhibition at Gamescom 2026

Deep inside Cologne’s WASSERMANNHALLE, forty iconic game titles will shed their digital skins this August. From August 27 to 29, the 'Worlds of Play' exhibition transforms raw game development assets into a gallery-worthy retrospective, marking the first time such a diverse collection of global studio works appears in one physical space.

Organized into five distinct thematic zones—Reality, Experiments, Abyss, Epics, and Wonderland—the exhibition highlights the technical and creative collaboration behind modern gaming. Visitors will encounter original concept art, character statues, and scale models drawn from major franchises, including Black Myth: Wukong, League of Legends, and the Dying Light series. While some installations offer a behind-the-scenes look at the mechanics of fear in titles like GTFO and Layers of Fear, others focus on the aesthetic vibrancy of ACG culture.

Steven Ma, Senior Vice President of Tencent, frames the event as a tribute to the multidisciplinary nature of game design, where storytelling, music, and technology converge. Beyond static displays, the exhibition aims for active engagement, featuring developer dialogues and cosplay showcases. Registration for the event is currently open via the official Tencent portal, with organizers advising early sign-ups due to limited capacity at the Cologne venue.
