Laura Chaubard to lead Sopra Steria’s Defence, Security and Space unit

Laura Chaubard, the former Director General of École Polytechnique, will oversee Sopra Steria’s Defence, Security and Space vertical starting September 1, 2026. Her transition to the Group Executive Committee signals a strategic push to deepen the firm’s influence in European sovereign technology and critical infrastructure.

The appointment arrives as Europe accelerates defense spending at a thirty-year high, prioritizing strategic autonomy over reliance on non-European partners. Chaubard, a General Engineer of Armament and École Polytechnique graduate, inherits a division that accounted for 13% of the company's revenue in 2025. Her mandate focuses on steering the integration of critical systems for armed forces, intelligence agencies, and space organizations.

Sopra Steria has been aggressively positioning itself to dominate these sectors through targeted acquisitions, including the recent purchase of Starion and Nexova in May 2026. These moves, alongside the established capabilities of the CS Group subsidiary, provide a foundation for the firm’s ambition to lead in cybersecurity and data processing. CEO Rajesh Krishnamurthy noted that the leadership change reflects the scale of resources the group is committing to its expansion as a primary partner for national security projects across Europe.
