CirrusDx Debuts Lactobacillus Panel to Shift Vaginal Health Diagnostics

Moving beyond the traditional focus on detecting pathogens, Rockville-based CirrusDx has introduced LacP, a diagnostic panel designed to quantify protective Lactobacillus species. The test provides clinicians with a comprehensive view of the vaginal microbiome, aiming to support more precise, individualized treatment decisions for patients facing recurrent health challenges.

Standard vaginal testing protocols typically prioritize identifying harmful organisms, often ignoring the essential balance of beneficial bacteria. By measuring the abundance of Lactobacillus species, which are critical for maintaining an acidic environment, LacP allows providers to assess the stability of a patient's microbiome. This data helps explain why two patients with similar infection profiles may require entirely different clinical approaches.

Natalie Tran, a clinical advocate at CirrusDx, noted that these underlying variations significantly influence how providers counsel patients. CEO Kyle Armantrout emphasized that the panel responds to a growing demand for proactive diagnostic tools. The new test integrates into the company’s existing suite of women’s health diagnostics, which already covers conditions such as bacterial vaginosis and candidiasis.
