Leaf Home Integrates Motion-Sensor Lighting Into Stair Lift Rails

Seventy-seven percent of homeowners cite multi-level layouts as the primary obstacle to aging in place, a statistic driving new safety innovations in residential mobility. Leaf Home is addressing this navigation challenge by launching a built-in motion-sensor lighting system designed to illuminate staircases automatically as users approach.

The new Stair Lift Comfort Lighting feature embeds sensors directly into the stair lift rail, removing the need for additional wall-mounted fixtures or manual switches. By coupling the lift's operation with automated illumination, the system aims to reduce trip hazards for residents with mobility limitations. The technology activates whenever the lift is in use or motion is detected nearby, providing immediate visibility in low-light conditions.

Mike Peck, Vice President of Installation at Leaf Home, noted that the design focuses on fostering independence for those navigating multi-story homes. The lighting system is currently available as an optional add-on for new Leaf Home straight indoor stair lift models. This rollout follows the company’s recent expansion into broader residential services, including the 2025 acquisition of Erie Home, as it seeks to scale its aging-in-place solutions across North America.
