During his tenure as dean of the School of Health Professions at KU Medical Center since 2016, Akinwuntan oversaw a period of expansion that included an 19-fold increase in external research funding and 11 consecutive years of enrollment growth. He also secured approximately $18 million in philanthropic support while launching eight new academic programs. KCU President and CEO Marc B. Hahn cited this track record as a primary driver for the hire, noting the university's intent to elevate its research portfolio and academic mission.
