The new capability connects Symmetry’s tax infrastructure—which currently processes paychecks for over 64 million employees—to existing AI toolsets. By utilizing the Model Context Protocol, the system provides a read-only interface that allows both technical and non-technical staff to verify jurisdiction rules, run multi-state tax calculations, and confirm benefit limits without needing to file engineering tickets.
Symmetry Deploys MCP Server to Anchor Payroll AI in Tax Accuracy
While 78% of payroll teams have integrated AI into their workflows, less than half trust the technology to handle tax calculations accurately. To bridge this gap, Scottsdale-based Symmetry is launching a new Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, allowing AI agents to pull deterministic, real-time tax data directly from its core engine.

Symmetry’s internal research highlights a growing tension between AI adoption and compliance reliability. With 39% of professionals citing inaccurate tax calculations as a primary concern, firms are currently forced to rely on manual updates or outdated training data. The integration aims to replace this uncertainty with a centralized, verified source of truth. As Greg Lyon, Head of Product at Symmetry, noted, the shift allows engineering teams to focus on core product development rather than resolving routine compliance inquiries. For organizations split on whether to manage compliance logic internally or through external partners, the MCP provides a standardized foundation that functions regardless of the chosen operational strategy.
