Oakworth Chairman and CEO Scott Reed noted that the appointment is intended to bolster the firm’s mission to refine financial services by leveraging Carothers’ deep industry experience.
Oakworth Capital Appoints EY Veteran Russ Carothers to Board
After a 37-year tenure at EY specializing in banking and capital markets, W. Russell “Russ” Carothers III has joined the board of directors at Oakworth Capital Inc. Effective July 15, 2026, the veteran financial executive will step into his new role to provide oversight and strategic guidance for the Birmingham-based firm.

Oakworth Capital, which manages $2.0 billion in total assets and $2.7 billion in wealth and trust assets, has maintained a consistent focus on client satisfaction, recently reporting a 95 Net Promoter Score. The addition of Carothers comes as the company continues to expand its private and commercial banking footprint across the Southeast from its Alabama headquarters.
