The massive turnout solidified the film’s status as a cultural event, with Regal reporting that five of the top ten highest-grossing locations for the movie were within its own circuit, including theaters in Houston, Irvine, Los Angeles, Nashville, and New York. Over half of all tickets sold were for premium formats, specifically IMAX 70MM, which Nolan has championed as the definitive way to view his work. This surge in attendance pushed Regal to add 72 overnight screenings to accommodate the relentless demand.
Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey Shatters Regal IMAX Records
Christopher Nolan’s latest epic, The Odyssey, raked in $22.9 million during its opening weekend at Regal cinemas, securing the exhibitor's largest audience share of 2026. The film’s launch shattered historical benchmarks for IMAX 70MM presentations, drawing thousands of viewers to sold-out screenings and unconventional 3:00 a.m. showtimes across the country.

Financial performance extended beyond the box office, as concession sales reached their highest point of the year, outperforming the release of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Revenue from snacks and drinks tracked 10% higher than the 2026 average, while specialized merchandise, such as the IMAX Film Camera Bucket, sold out entirely. Regal Global Entertainment CEO Eduardo Acuña attributed the success to the audience's hunger for theatrical experiences that justify the premium presentation, noting that when filmmakers deliver event-worthy content, moviegoers respond by filling seats at every hour of the day.
