Lakewood-Amedex Targets Drug Resistance with Nu-3 Clinical Candidate
Sarasota-based Lakewood-Amedex Biotherapeutics is positioning its lead candidate, Nu-3, as a primary defense against rising antimicrobial resistance. The company presented new data confirming the drug’s physical mechanism of action, which bypasses common bacterial resistance pathways, aligning with the latest federal guidelines for combating antibiotic-resistant threats.

Laboratory profiling shows the drug maintains activity against a wide range of resistant bacteria, including those carrying vanA, vanB, and mec variants, as well as complex beta-lactamase producers like NDM and CRE. By circumventing established efflux pump mechanisms and metabolic defenses, the platform addresses specific objectives set by the Presidential Advisory Council on Combating Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria (PACCARB). CEO Kelvin Cooper stated that the company is prioritizing these efforts to answer the national call for innovative, resistance-evading anti-infective therapies.
