The agreement builds on a partnership established in October 2024, shifting focus toward a comprehensive energy strategy for the 45,000-acre site. Under the new terms, RIC Energy will develop solar facilities to provide electricity for the ranch’s agricultural activity, while both companies evaluate the feasibility of utilizing the existing 220-mile Northern Pipeline corridor to transport hydrogen to regional markets. This infrastructure planning covers the construction of dedicated pipelines and necessary electrical transmission systems intended to support the Mojave Groundwater Bank and other San Bernardino County water projects.
Cadiz and RIC Energy Expand Mojave Desert Green Hydrogen Project
Cadiz, Inc. and RIC Energy have signed a memorandum of understanding to integrate on-site solar generation into their existing green hydrogen collaboration at the Cadiz Ranch in California’s Mojave Desert, aiming to power agricultural operations and regional water infrastructure with a newly unified renewable energy platform.
Susan Kennedy, CEO of Cadiz, stated that the initiative represents a transition toward clean fuel sources, following the company’s recent move away from diesel-powered operations. Jonathan Rappe, CEO of RIC Energy North America, described the project as an evolution beyond traditional storage, focusing on the long-term requirements of the regional hydrogen economy. The firms are currently moving toward a definitive power purchase agreement to formalize the solar component of the site’s development. These plans coincide with recent regulatory progress for the Northern Pipeline, which received federal approval earlier this month to convert its service from natural gas to water conveyance.
