The shift is largely fueled by Gen Z, with 76% expressing a desire for year-round access to their favorite seasonal sweets. This enthusiasm has birthed Summerween, a trend nearly 60% of younger consumers have already embraced. Tim LeBel, Chief Halloween Officer at Mars Snacking North America, notes that culture, not the calendar, is now dictating retail strategy. To align with this early demand, Mars has begun rolling out its 2026 Halloween portfolio nationwide, featuring new additions like TWIX Skulls and SKITTLES POP'D Creepy Crunch.
Halloween Is Now a Multi-Month Season, According to Mars 2026 Report
Halloween has officially outgrown the calendar, transforming from a single night of trick-or-treating into a sprawling, multi-month retail phenomenon. Driven by the rise of Summerween and shifting consumer habits among younger generations, over half of U.S. adults now view the holiday as an extended seasonal experience rather than a singular date.

While digital platforms are the primary drivers of trend discovery—with 53% of Gen Z using TikTok for inspiration—the actual purchasing process remains grounded in physical retail. Consumers are increasingly using the candy bowl as a form of social currency, with 75% of adults agreeing that shared treats help forge community ties. To satisfy the growing demand for multi-sensory and textured snacks, the company is leaning into novelty, even as classic offerings like M&M'S maintain their status as the top-ranked Halloween brand among shoppers.
