Procode Secures $10 Million to Scale AI-Driven Surgical Billing

The Los Angeles-based firm plans to execute a strategy of acquiring established surgical billing companies and integrating its proprietary AI technology to automate complex workflows. By layering its coding engine over traditional billing operations, Procode seeks to reduce reimbursement denials and accelerate financial cycles for private practice surgeons. CEO Jeff Cripe noted that the company operates on a contingency model, meaning its growth is directly tied to the additional revenue it generates for its clinical clients.

Validation for this expansion comes from a peer-reviewed study published in PRS Global Open. The research compared Procode’s specialized hybrid LLM against major general-purpose models, including OpenAI’s GPT-5 and Google’s Gemini 2.5 Pro, as well as human auditors. Procode achieved 86.7% overall accuracy across 120 operative reports, significantly outpacing human auditors who reached 42.5% and the top-performing general-purpose model at 35.8%. On the most complex surgical cases, the firm’s technology maintained 80% accuracy, while generic models struggled to exceed 12.5%. With $14 million in total funding raised since its 2024 founding, Procode intends to use the new capital to finalize two additional acquisitions in the coming months.
