Guy Mangiamele, Director of AMCI Testing, notes that the system’s improved lane positioning and smooth control risk lulling drivers into a false sense of security. Because the software remains a Level 2 system, this shift creates a dangerous reliance on human intervention, despite the system still being prone to unpredictable errors.
Tesla FSD 14.3.4 Shows Gains but Struggles with Navigation
After logging 1,000 miles of real-world testing, AMCI Testing reports that Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (Supervised) 14.3.4 update demonstrates refined vehicle control but continues to falter on basic navigation. While the camera-only system displays technical progress, its reliability remains tethered to ideal conditions, leaving its Robotaxi ambitions currently out of reach.

Beyond safety concerns, the software frequently failed to execute basic routing tasks during the trial. These navigation failures pose a significant hurdle for any potential autonomous taxi fleet. David Stokols, representing the research firm, emphasized that while the camera-only suite is impressive under clear skies, the true test lies ahead. The firm’s next phase of evaluation will focus on adverse weather, including rain and fog, which will serve as the ultimate benchmark for whether the technology can evolve beyond its current supervised limitations.
