Seed Health Data Suggests Co-Biotics Reshape Microbiome Nutrient Pathways

Microbiome science company Seed Health has unveiled preclinical data indicating that its specialized Co-Biotic formulations can trigger distinct microbial pathways to boost vitamin B3, short-chain fatty acids, and tryptophan availability. Presented at NUTRITION 2026, the findings challenge the traditional approach of designing supplements solely for human biology.

Seed Health Data Suggests Co-Biotics Reshape Microbiome Nutrient Pathways

Researchers utilized an ex vivo gastrointestinal model equipped with SIFR technology to evaluate three products: DM-02 Daily Multivitamin, AM-02 Energy + Focus, and PM-02 Sleep + Restore. The results demonstrate that these supplements modulate microbial composition to enhance nutrient metabolism and gut-brain signaling, moving beyond the scope of conventional vitamins.

DM-02 showed a 10-fold increase in bioactive vitamin B3 compared to standard nicotinic acid, alongside a significant rise in short-chain fatty acids. Meanwhile, AM-02 targeted the gut-brain axis by increasing acetate and butyrate production by 12% and 20% respectively. The sleep-focused PM-02 formulation improved tryptophan availability by 48% and strengthened gut barrier function by 18% under stress. According to CEO Cathrin Bowtell, the data confirms that designing products for both the body and its microbiome can unlock new potential in consumer health, providing a mechanistic foundation for the Co-Biotic category.
