Chevrolet Tops Mercury Insurance’s 2026 List of Affordable Trucks

Insurance premiums are a hidden variable in the total cost of pickup ownership, often overlooked by buyers prioritizing towing capacity or raw horsepower. Mercury Insurance released its annual ranking of the ten most affordable 2026 trucks to insure, placing Chevrolet models in the top two positions for the upcoming model year.

The Chevrolet Colorado LT secured the number one spot, followed closely by the Chevrolet Silverado C3500. According to Chong Gao, Director of R&D at Mercury Insurance, buyers should scrutinize insurance expenses before finalizing a purchase. Premiums are influenced by more than just the sticker price; repair complexity, the availability of parts, and safety technology integration all weigh heavily on the final rate.

Rounding out the top five on the list are the Ford Maverick and Ranger, the Hyundai Santa Cruz SE, and the Toyota Tundra CrewMax. These rankings, derived from the company’s internal analysis of 2025–2027 model year vehicles, serve as a guide for consumers who treat their trucks as multi-purpose tools for both professional work and weekend recreation. Because individual premiums remain dependent on driver profiles and geographic location, the insurer advises shoppers to compare these costs early in the decision-making process to avoid unforeseen financial strain.
