With over one million South Carolinians at or beyond retirement age, the Duke Energy Foundation has distributed $300,000 in grants to 32 local organizations. The funding aims to bolster essential infrastructure, including housing repairs, nutrition programs, and accessibility support, as demand for senior assistance continues to climb across the state.
The grants, which reach up to $20,000 per organization, are tailored to specific community needs. For groups like the United Way of Greater Hartsville, the funds translate into roof replacements and ADA-compliant bathroom modifications. Meanwhile, organizations such as Sumter Senior Services and Meals on Wheels-Anderson are utilizing the resources to combat food insecurity and social isolation by expanding meal delivery and community transport services. Other recipients, including Rebuild Upstate and Caring and Sharing, are prioritizing immediate home accessibility projects, such as ramp installations for residents on long-term waiting lists.
