Penumbra Reports Revenue Growth Amid Pending Boston Scientific Buyout

While Penumbra recorded a 14.9% revenue increase to $390 million for the second quarter of 2026, the company opted to bypass its typical financial guidance and investor conference calls. The silence stems directly from the ongoing acquisition process by Boston Scientific Corporation, which remains in a sensitive regulatory phase.

The Alameda-based medical device manufacturer saw robust performance across its product lines, with thrombectomy revenue reaching $259 million and embolization and access products contributing $131.1 million. Despite this topline growth, net income for the quarter dipped to $34.8 million compared to $45.2 million in the same period last year, largely influenced by an increased tax provision and $6.9 million in acquisition-related costs.

Operating expenses for the quarter totaled $223.9 million, reflecting a heavy investment in sales, general, and administrative functions. With the Boston Scientific deal looming, management has signaled that operations are currently focused on maintaining stability rather than projecting future targets. The company’s gross profit margin improved to 67.9%, showcasing continued efficiency in its core thrombectomy business even as the organization navigates the complexities of a pending corporate transition.
