Bloomberg Automates Australian ETF and Derivatives Trading

Australian market participants can now electronically negotiate locally listed ETFs, options, and futures through Bloomberg’s Request-for-Quote (RFQe) workflow. Following a rule variation by ASIC, this move replaces traditional voice and manual messaging with a centralized, auditable platform designed to consolidate domestic and offshore trading experiences.

The integration allows firms to access multi-dealer liquidity directly through Bloomberg’s EMSX and AIM systems. By automating the execution process, the platform provides a digital audit trail for trades that previously relied on fragmented communication channels. This expansion covers a broad range of investment and hedging strategies, aiming to simplify portfolio management for institutional clients.

JBWere, an early adopter of the system, noted that the transition to electronic workflows improves transparency and execution quality. Ben Pool, head of Australia and New Zealand at Bloomberg, highlighted that the update addresses the rapid growth of the local ETF sector by offering consistency across domestic and global markets. The new capability complements Bloomberg’s existing BSKT solution, which manages the creation and redemption lifecycle, effectively covering the entire spectrum of ETF operations.
