Brewer Science Acquires Heraeus Epurio Unit to Secure Chip Supply Chain

Brewer Science has acquired the semiconductor chemicals division of Heraeus Epurio, bringing the production of ultrapure materials in-house. The move marks a strategic shift toward vertical integration, aimed at enforcing the company’s rigorous Zero Defects quality standards across the entire manufacturing process for next-generation microchips.

The acquisition includes Heraeus Epurio’s production facility in Dayton, Ohio, along with technical and sales teams located across Asia. By absorbing this business, Brewer Science gains direct control over the synthesis and formulation of critical components, including photoacid generators, photoinitiators, monomers, and crosslinkers. These specialty chemicals are essential for advanced lithography, where even microscopic trace-metal impurities can render a chip defective.

Dr. Sri Kommu, co-CEO of Brewer Science, stated that the integration allows the company to maintain a unified approach from the chemistry lab to the production floor. This consolidation is designed to ensure supply chain integrity as the industry pushes toward more demanding technology nodes. The acquisition complements the company's recent infrastructure growth, including the 2025 opening of its Arizona Innovation Center in Chandler.

Dan Brewer, co-CEO, emphasized that merging the two technical teams is intended to accelerate innovation, enabling the company to anticipate the requirements of future semiconductor manufacturing. With operations now spanning Missouri, Arizona, and Ohio, the company is positioning itself to handle more of the research and manufacturing of sensitive materials domestically. This expansion reinforces the firm's focus on quality control, ensuring that the materials powering modern microdevices meet the highest levels of consistency.
