Reynolds concludes a distinguished 40-year federal career that included a stint as acting director of the National Park Service in 2017. His resume spans leadership roles at iconic sites ranging from Yosemite and Olympic to Fire Island and Cape Cod. Most recently, he served as the deputy director of external and congressional affairs before retiring from the government in 2024.
Mike Reynolds Joins National Park Foundation as Chief Program Officer
After four decades navigating the complexities of the National Park Service, Mike Reynolds is transitioning to the private sector to lead the National Park Foundation’s programmatic strategy. He steps into the role of Chief Program Officer, tasked with managing an organization that distributed over $83.8 million in grants last year.
At the Foundation, Reynolds inherits the responsibility of overseeing grantmaking operations and managing relationships with a network of more than 470 local nonprofit partners. Jeff Reinbold, president and CEO of the Foundation, noted that Reynolds will focus on accelerating funding deployment and strengthening the collaborative ecosystem that supports park conservation, youth engagement, and visitor services. Beyond his new duties, Reynolds maintains seats on the Fairfax County Park Authority Board and the Chesapeake Conservancy’s public affairs committee.
