Maintaining grid reliability during this period requires balancing extreme operational demands with worker safety. Lineworkers are currently operating under strict protocols, including mandatory hydration breaks and scheduled rotations to mitigate the risks posed by heat stress during intensive infrastructure maintenance.

To help residents mitigate the financial impact of the heat, the company recommends basic efficiency adjustments such as elevating thermostat settings and utilizing ceiling fans to improve air circulation. Customers can also track their consumption through mid-month Usage Alert emails, which provide projections for monthly billing cycles. Beyond these daily habits, the utility offers more intensive support through Home Energy Checks and the EnergyWise Home program, which features monthly bill credits and potential rebates of up to $3,800 for home efficiency upgrades.

"Many of our customers are already feeling the impact of the extreme summer heat," said Melissa Seixas, Duke Energy Florida state president. The utility, which manages 12,500 megawatts of capacity across the state, continues to lean on its broader modernization strategy to keep infrastructure stable as temperatures climb.
