At the FAB26 conference in Boston, xTool moved beyond its role as a hardware supplier, positioning its technology as the engine for a new era of distributed production. By partnering with MIT’s Center for Bits and Atoms, the company aims to shift community fabrication from simple prototyping to scalable, real-world manufacturing.

Scaling Local Production
To bridge the gap between global infrastructure and neighborhood access, xTool is integrating its xTool Squad network with the Fab Foundation’s ecosystem of 2,710 labs. While the Fab Foundation provides the blueprint for making almost anything, the Squad’s 1,327 local hosts aim to bring that capacity into garages and studios worldwide. This synergy is supported by the 1% Maker Challenge, a joint initiative with MIT’s Center for Bits and Atoms that rewards projects demonstrating social impact. Recent winners included the DahoraKit, which utilizes open-source design to lower barriers in STEM education. Through these efforts and a series of hands-on workshops featuring the F2 Ultra and P3 CO2 laser, xTool is formalizing the transition from individual craft to a decentralized, professional-grade production network.
