Anhui Transforms Into China's New Industrial Engine
Fifteen diplomats from nations including Fiji, Ethiopia, and Türkiye gathered in Hefei this week to survey Anhui’s rapid industrial pivot. Once defined by agriculture, the province now ranks among China’s top ten by GDP, fueled by a concentrated push into artificial intelligence, new energy vehicles, and advanced manufacturing.

Botswana’s Ambassador, Lekoko S. Kenosi, highlighted the province’s R&D capabilities as a primary draw, specifically pointing toward intelligent manufacturing as a sector ripe for partnership. Fiji’s Ambassador, Robert Lee, echoed this sentiment, identifying digital infrastructure as a critical bridge between Anhui’s output and his country’s development requirements. The week-long itinerary extends beyond Hefei to include site visits in Xuancheng and Huangshan, where the focus shifts to cultural industries, green technology, and eco-tourism. While no formal agreements were finalized during the initial sessions, the exchange signals a broader effort to integrate Anhui’s evolving supply chains into global markets.
