The transaction transitions ownership from Matt McMurray, who purchased the dealership in 2022, to the family-owned Obaugh group. For McMurray, the sale represents a shift following a career that began in his father's automotive shop and saw him recognized as the Virginia Independent Auto Dealers Association Dealer of the Year. The dealership, which will be rebranded as Charlie Obaugh Ford, will continue operations at its current Waynesboro site.
Charlie Obaugh Auto Group Expands with Acquisition of Campus Ford
Eric Obaugh, president of the Virginia-based Charlie Obaugh Auto Group, has finalized the acquisition of Campus Ford in Waynesboro. The deal, facilitated by Performance Brokerage Services, marks a significant regional consolidation, adding the group's first Ford franchise to its existing portfolio of Chevrolet, GMC, Kia, and Mitsubishi dealerships.

Performance Brokerage Services acted as the exclusive buy-side advisor for the deal. Southeast Partners Weldon Mann and Jimmy Robinson managed the negotiations, citing the acquisition as a strategic fit that complements the group's established presence in nearby Staunton. The Charlie Obaugh Auto Group, founded in 1976, now manages six franchised dealerships. Eric Obaugh noted that the acquisition allows the firm to deepen its footprint in the Shenandoah Valley, leveraging the existing foundation of the Campus Ford team to serve the local community under the new ownership banner.
