The fund, which carries a $500 million hard cap, arrives as a formalization of a six-year partnership between EMERGING managing partner Mathew Focht and Promethean managing partner Michael Burt. Rather than backing consumer-facing apps, the venture focuses on the industry’s intelligence layer—specifically computer vision, autonomous service, and supply-chain logistics. By targeting companies that reduce labor friction, the partners intend to address the sector’s thin margins and high turnover.
EMERGING and Promethean Unveil $300M Fund Targeting AI for Hospitality
With 15.7 million jobs and persistent labor shortages, the U.S. restaurant industry has become the primary target for a new $300 million investment vehicle. The Experience Fund, a joint venture between EMERGING and Promethean, aims to overhaul the sector’s manual processes by backing AI and automation infrastructure.

Investors are betting on the unique data access provided by John Davie, a GP at EMERGING and CEO of Buyers Edge Platform. Because the platform works with nearly one in three U.S. restaurants, portfolio companies receive immediate access to a massive operator network. Focht argues that hospitality remains a prime opportunity due to its massive scale and lack of legacy technology. Promethean’s Michael Burt views the transition as a fundamental shift, comparing the current wave of hospitality automation to the technological disruption that previously reshaped music and film.
