TerraPower Secures Korean Partnerships for Natrium Reactor Expansion
During a high-level visit to Seoul, TerraPower chairman Bill Gates and CEO Chris Levesque finalized major agreements with Hyundai Engineering & Construction and SK Innovation. These deals aim to fast-track the deployment of Natrium reactor technology across the United States and international markets through shared engineering and construction expertise.
Simultaneously, a term sheet with SK Innovation outlines plans to develop Korea's first commercial Natrium facility. The collaboration will leverage digital twin technology and artificial intelligence to optimize long-term maintenance and plant operations. These moves follow TerraPower's existing commitment to deploy eight plants by 2035, including a notable agreement with Meta. The Natrium system, featuring a 345 MW sodium-cooled fast reactor and a molten salt storage unit, remains the only design capable of scaling output to 500 MW to meet peak grid demands.
