Jack Humbert’s influential ortholinear layout receives its most significant upgrade in years as Apos launches the Preonic Rev 4. By integrating modern hardware standards like the RP2040 microcontroller and hotswap sockets, the company aims to preserve the platform’s minimalist philosophy while meeting contemporary demands for customization and performance.

Engineered around a four-layer hotswap PCB, the new version features the RP2040 microcontroller and enhanced ESD protection. Users gain support for up to ten rotary encoders, allowing for granular control over media, macros, and navigation. With full per-key RGB backlighting and a CNC-machined aluminum chassis, the hardware is now compatible with universal USB daughterboards and advanced QMK configurations. This iteration solidifies the Preonic’s position as a modular tool, favoring repairability and user-defined layouts over fixed, appliance-style design.
