The relaunch marks a return for Old Pal, which cultivated a dedicated following during the state’s medical-only era. Now, as Maryland transitions to broader adult-use access, the brand aims to scale its reach by utilizing SunMed’s Dutch-style greenhouse facilities. These sites rely on full-spectrum natural light rather than energy-intensive indoor arrays, a production method both companies cite as central to their sustainability goals.
SunMed Growers and Old Pal Revive Cannabis Partnership in Maryland
After a period of market absence, the lifestyle cannabis brand Old Pal is returning to Maryland through a strategic licensing agreement with SunMed Growers. The collaboration leverages SunMed’s Cecil County greenhouse infrastructure to supply the state’s expanding adult-use market with a range of accessible, sun-grown flower and pre-roll products.
Old Pal CEO Rusty Wilenkin emphasized that the partnership focuses on maintaining product accessibility, a core tenet of the brand since its 2018 founding in California. SunMed President Jake Van Wingerden noted that the move aligns with his company's long-term agricultural practices, blending large-scale production capabilities with the specific brand identity Old Pal established. The returning Maryland lineup includes whole flower, two-pack pre-rolls, and the signature 'Ready to Roll' ground cannabis kits across Indica, Sativa, and hybrid varieties.
