West Virginia American Water Launches $512,000 Fayette Avenue Project

Fayetteville residents will face traffic disruptions and potential service outages as West Virginia American Water begins a $512,000 infrastructure overhaul. The project, which targets aging utility lines along Fayette Avenue, serves as a localized piece of the company’s broader $129 million statewide investment plan for 2026.

Crews are set to replace 1,040 feet of pipe with 6-inch PVC mains along the stretch between Sarah Street and Huse Street. Work is scheduled for weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with completion expected by late October and final street restoration slated for the fall. During this period, residents should anticipate temporary drops in water pressure, discoloration, or brief service interruptions.

Company president Scott Wyman described the work as a necessary step to maintain reliable service for the community. The initiative aligns with a decade-long effort by the utility to modernize aging infrastructure across the state, a program that has seen over $805 million in capital upgrades and the installation of 168 miles of new water mains since 2016. According to company data, these investments are projected to stimulate local economies, with estimates suggesting that every $1 million spent on water systems creates approximately 10 jobs.
