Net income fell 30.3% to $40.7 million for the 12-week period ending July 18, 2026, as the company grappled with rising labor and freight costs alongside increased marketing expenditures. While the company saw a modest benefit from pricing adjustments, these gains failed to offset a 5.8% decline in total volume. Adjusted diluted earnings per share dropped to $0.21, down from $0.30 in the same quarter last year.
Flowers Foods Trims Full-Year Outlook Amid Sliding Sales
Flowers Foods reported a 4% decline in second-quarter net sales to $1.19 billion, as macroeconomic headwinds and shifting consumer habits drove a sharp drop in volume. The bakery giant, which owns brands like Nature’s Own and Dave’s Killer Bread, responded by lowering its earnings guidance for the remainder of 2026.

Chairman and CEO Ryals McMullian pointed to a "more difficult operating environment" than previously expected, citing sustained competitive activity and evolving purchasing behaviors. In response, Flowers Foods is doubling down on initiatives to sharpen its value proposition and accelerate innovation. A key focus remains the relaunch of Nature’s Own, which the company expects will eventually bolster its position in the better-for-you segment. To navigate the current landscape, management has lowered its full-year sales forecast to a range of $5.07 billion to $5.14 billion, reflecting a more cautious stance on consumer demand through the rest of the year.
