The newly acquired property spans approximately 210 acres and began operations only last year. By integrating this site into a network that already includes the Buffalo Trace, Barton 1792, and The Glenmore distilleries, Sazerac aims to alleviate supply constraints that have persisted despite recent capital projects. President and CEO Jake Wenz noted that the company currently employs nearly 3,000 workers in Kentucky and intends to hire additional staff at the Lancaster location as production scales up.
Sazerac Acquires Garrard County Distilling to Boost Kentucky Capacity
Sazerac has acquired the Garrard County Distilling facility in Lancaster, Kentucky, marking a strategic expansion of its regional production network. The company plans to leverage the site's existing infrastructure, which features two column stills and two large-scale barrel warehouses, to meet rising consumer demand for its diverse portfolio of spirits.

This move follows a period of aggressive capital expenditure across the Commonwealth. In early 2025, Sazerac wrapped up a ten-year, $1.2 billion expansion at Buffalo Trace, while also funneling approximately $90 million into upgrades at the Barton 1792 and Glenmore sites over the last five years. Local officials, including Garrard County Judge Executive Chris Elleman and House Speaker Pro Tempore David Meade, welcomed the acquisition as a catalyst for local economic development and a testament to the enduring strength of the state's bourbon industry.
