The product leverages Sketch’s proprietary aliphatic polyurea technology, designed to provide over 15 years of protection against degradation. Unlike standard fluoropolymers, which can crack due to thermal expansion, this coating remains flexible, moving with the substrate while blocking UV rays that cause fading in signs and building materials. Ryotaro Yamagishi of Sketch Business Management notes that the coating can even restore color to surfaces that have begun to show signs of weathering.
Tokyo-based Sketch targets global markets with roller-applied UV coating
With 80% of Japan’s window coating market already secured, Tokyo’s Sketch is expanding its reach by launching UV Shield PU. The transparent, roller-applied coating aims to simplify exterior maintenance for international retail chains and facility managers, bypassing the need for specialized machinery or professional certifications.
Following the success of the company's IRUV CUT COAT—which has been applied to over 1.4 million square meters globally—the new PU formula focuses on accessibility. By allowing for manual application with a standard roller and offering a pot life of up to 60 minutes, the company adheres to a 'high-tech product, low-tech application' philosophy. This strategy is intended to make the coating viable in regions where advanced spraying equipment or licensed operators are not readily available.
