Owners of 2023-2025 Volkswagen ID.4 vehicles are taking the automaker to federal court, alleging that a critical defect in high-voltage batteries creates a significant fire hazard. The lawsuit, filed in New Jersey, claims the company delayed safety recalls despite documented thermal incidents linked to misaligned electrodes.
By January 2026, Volkswagen issued additional recalls involving thousands of vehicles, acknowledging thermal incidents that occurred outside of identified supplier ranges. Despite these measures, the manufacturer admitted it had yet to determine a definitive root cause for the malfunctions. The lawsuit, brought by the firm Kessler Topaz Meltzer & Check, seeks to address the safety risks posed to owners and the potential for property damage caused by the alleged defect.
