NorCal Lumber and West Coast Framing Adopt New Anti-Mold Treatment

Rain and snow trapped beneath wall plates during construction often trigger hidden mold growth that persists long after occupancy. To combat this, NorCal Lumber Company and West Coast Framing have mandated the use of SNAP-PLATE MOLD DEFENDER™ on all joint projects, targeting moisture at the source before vertical framing begins.

The treatment, developed by professional framer Steve Conboy, is applied directly to subfloor layout lines and bottom plates. By addressing the vulnerable interface between the foundation and the wall, the product aims to mitigate structural defects that remain inaccessible once drywall is installed. Wayne Withers, president of NorCal Lumber, cited the ASTM G21 testing standards as the primary driver for the decision to standardize the product across their Western United States operations.

Industry adoption is expanding beyond these two firms. T.R. Wurster Construction, a Los Angeles-based contractor with over five decades of experience, has also integrated the technology into their workflow. Jonathan Wurster noted that the application serves as a preventative measure to reduce long-term liability. The product is currently available through authorized distributors, positioning itself as a new standard for moisture management in wood-framed residential and commercial development.
