The "Play Your Part" campaign emphasizes that community resilience relies on individual contributions, ranging from food donations to policy advocacy. CEO Denis McDonough noted that families are increasingly forced into difficult financial tradeoffs due to the rising cost of groceries and energy, making local support networks more vital than ever. The initiative highlights personal stories of engagement, such as volunteers in Roanoke, Virginia, who are expanding access to fresh produce through public planting programs and direct assistance at local food banks.
Feeding America Launches Hunger Action Month Amid Rising Insecurity
Forty-eight million Americans faced food insecurity in 2024, marking the highest level of need since 2014. With rural and Southern households struggling under the weight of persistent inflation, Feeding America is launching its annual September campaign to mobilize volunteers, donors, and advocates in a nationwide effort to stabilize local food access.

Feeding America plans to mark the month by releasing its 2026 Elevating Voices report on September 29. This annual survey gathers direct input from those experiencing food insecurity to shape future policy discussions. As federal nutrition support programs face a period of decline, the organization is pushing for a collective response to address both immediate hunger and the systemic roots of food instability across its network of 250 food banks and thousands of agency partners.
