The partnership, announced at the organization's annual conference in Orlando, equips community members with a verification tool that works via smartphone. When a lost person is found, any bystander can scan the UR Code to access emergency contact information and confirm the individual's identity by matching their face against the encrypted biometric data. This initiative expands the reach of Project Lifesaver, which has rescued over 4,650 people since its inception 27 years ago.
Project Lifesaver Adopts FaceTec Biometrics to Secure Missing Persons
Project Lifesaver International is integrating FaceTec’s UR Code technology into its search-and-rescue operations to accelerate the identification of at-risk children and adults. By embedding 3D biometric data into locator bracelets and personal items, the program aims to bridge the gap between initial discovery and the safe return of missing individuals.
FaceTec has licensed the software to the nonprofit at no cost and in perpetuity. Beyond locator bracelets, the technology is also being deployed on law enforcement identification cards to prevent impersonation and verify credentials for retirees. Gene Saunders, founder and CEO of Project Lifesaver, noted that the integration empowers the public to assist first responders, effectively turning every smartphone user into a potential participant in the search-and-rescue process.
