The data, released by Penn Foster, highlights a paradox in the regional labor market. Although firms generally view Atlanta’s talent pool as superior to the national average, the practical reality of hiring remains slow and difficult. More than three-quarters of surveyed HR professionals report that key positions stay vacant for at least a month, with over a third of these roles requiring two months or longer to fill.
To bridge this gap, companies are abandoning rigid degree requirements. Currently, 40% of employers require four-year degrees for fewer positions than they did two years ago, signaling a shift toward skills-based hiring. Over 80% of firms now express openness to candidates who demonstrate competency through certifications or experience rather than traditional diplomas.
