The deal establishes a framework allowing the Dutch military to procure and deploy these specialized covers across its vehicle inventory over the coming years. An initial order has already been placed to outfit the army’s existing Fennek reconnaissance vehicles and Panzerhaubitze self-propelled howitzers. The contract also contains provisions to extend the camouflage protection to additional vehicle types as operational needs evolve.
Saab Secures Multi-Year Camouflage Deal with Dutch Ministry of Defence
The Netherlands Ministry of Defence has finalized a long-term agreement to acquire Barracuda Mobile Camouflage Systems from Swedish defense firm Saab. This partnership aims to bolster the survivability of the Royal Netherlands Army’s vehicle fleet by masking assets from advanced multispectral sensor detection across diverse combat environments.
Henning Robach, head of Saab’s Barracuda business unit, noted that the technology is designed to maintain battlefield mobility by reducing the risk of detection in woodland, urban, or arctic theaters. The Barracuda system is engineered for a precise fit on specific platforms, ensuring the protective layers remain effective regardless of terrain or environmental conditions.
