This follows earlier distributions in November 2025 and February 2026, which combined returned $20.2 million to the utility's customer base. In total, the company has funneled $24.9 million in settlement proceeds directly back to users, a process facilitated by the Illinois Commerce Commission’s approval of a specific litigation credit rider.
Illinois American Water Customers Receive Further PFAS Settlement Credits
Customers of Illinois American Water recently saw a $15.02 credit applied to their accounts, marking the third round of payouts from settlements with PFAS manufacturers. This latest distribution brings the cumulative total returned to eligible ratepayers to $82.40 per account as the utility navigates ongoing water treatment upgrades.
These financial offsets are distributed uniformly across all active accounts regardless of local PFAS detection levels. While the credit program addresses past litigation, the utility is simultaneously scaling up its infrastructure. Illinois American Water has committed to a $92 million investment plan through 2029 to expand treatment capabilities across its systems, aiming to meet tightening federal standards for drinking water quality.
