The utility’s ongoing modernization efforts, which have seen $30 billion invested over the last decade, aim to harden the network against increasingly severe weather. By upgrading 32 neighborhood electric circuits, PSE&G observed a 31% increase in reliability and a 37% gain in resiliency. These improvements are designed to isolate faults more effectively and reduce the duration of service interruptions for customers throughout the state.
Beyond electric grid hardening, the company continues to overhaul its natural gas network. Since 2016, crews have replaced over 1,655 miles of aging cast-iron and unprotected steel mains. Plans are already in motion to swap an additional 525 miles of legacy piping over the next three years to further mitigate leak risks for nearly two million gas customers. Paul Toscarelli, vice president of electric operations, noted that these technical upgrades represent a commitment to the communities that rely on consistent energy delivery during extreme weather events.
