Independent Leadership Council Hits $10 Million Fundraising Milestone

The organization, which launched in July following a convening at The Greenbrier in West Virginia, argues that the American political system is currently disconnected from its constituents. While nearly half of the country identifies as independent, no current member of Congress holds office without a major party affiliation. The council seeks to exploit narrow margins in the House and Senate, suggesting that even a small cohort of non-aligned lawmakers could strip power from party leadership and force bipartisan cooperation.

Adam Brandon, a co-founder of the group, emphasized that the funding provides the necessary leverage to test this model in the upcoming election cycle. The council intends to announce a slate of candidates for the U.S. House and Senate in the coming weeks, focusing primarily on races in the West and Midwest. These candidates will be vetted on their viability and their explicit commitment to remain independent of party machinery once elected. Heather Manchin noted that the objective is not to form a third party, but to build a political environment where representatives answer to voters rather than institutional party structures.
