The current generation of superconducting quantum computers faces a physical constraint: the need for bulky, power-hungry cables connecting processors inside sub-zero cryostats to room-temperature control hardware. S-Transistors intends to replace this architecture with integrated circuits that function at cryogenic temperatures, effectively creating a 'quantum motherboard' that minimizes heat dissipation while handling complex signal routing.
Finnish startup S-Transistors secures €2.6M for quantum motherboards
S-Transistors, a spin-off from Finland’s VTT Technical Research Centre, has raised €2.6 million in pre-seed funding to develop superconducting transistors. By moving control electronics inside cryogenic environments, the company aims to solve the scaling bottlenecks currently limiting the growth of large-scale quantum computing systems.

Led by Nordic investor Lifeline Ventures, the funding will support the construction of a dedicated cryogenic laboratory and a manufacturing pilot line. CEO Heorhii Bohuslavskyi notes that while silicon-based chips struggle with the extreme thermal demands of quantum systems, superconducting transistors combine high-speed performance with near-zero power dissipation. The company plans to ship its first product—a cryogenic multiplexer—within its inaugural year, marking the first move toward commercializing technology that was theorized decades ago but remained largely confined to research labs.
