NCIER Launches Free Active Shooter Response Training for Schools
Most school staff understand the basics of a lockdown, but few are prepared for the chaotic minutes that follow an active shooter event. To bridge this gap, the National Center for Integrated Emergency Response (NCIER) released a free, self-paced online curriculum designed to synchronize schools and first responders.
Designed to complement existing protocols like the Standard Response Protocol and Standard Reunification Method, the modules cover the roles of teachers, bus drivers, superintendents, and public safety personnel. CEO Bill Godfrey emphasized that the goal is to ensure all parties know their specific responsibilities before an emergency occurs. The program is currently available at ncier.org, offering certificates to participants and tracking tools for districts to monitor completion rates.
