Former IRS Commissioner Holly Paz Joins alliant Tax Practice
Holly Paz, who recently concluded her tenure as Commissioner of the IRS Large Business and International Division, has joined Houston-based consulting firm alliant. Her appointment focuses on steering the firm’s Section 48 and energy infrastructure practice, leveraging her role in architecting the rules governing clean energy investment credits.

Energy infrastructure expansion has become a focal point for alliant, particularly regarding the power demands of the AI sector. The firm recently reported that out of 600 energy credit claims reviewed, only three met the rigorous standards set by Treasury and the IRS, highlighting the difficulty firms face in securing these incentives. Paz, who previously led the IRS’s corporate issues and credits division, will now oversee the identification and substantiation of these claims for alliant’s clients. Her transition from regulator to advisor marks a significant shift, as she moves from crafting the IRS playbook to ensuring corporate compliance with the standards she helped establish.
