A new toll transponder leaves the assembly line every three seconds at the Kapsch TrafficCom facility in Mississauga. The company recently confirmed that its Canadian site has reached a total of 115 million units produced, marking a significant production milestone for North American electronic tolling infrastructure.
Beyond initial manufacturing, the facility emphasizes environmental sustainability through a robust refurbishment program. Since 2017, the team has reclaimed hundreds of thousands of units, diverting more than 26 tons of electronic waste from landfills. By applying rigorous testing and 10-year warranties to these refurbished transponders, the company aligns its operational goals with circular economy practices. This strategy, combined with the use of recycled packaging materials, reflects a broader effort to reduce the environmental footprint of traffic management technology across the company's global portfolio.
