Flying Eyes and Cambium Unveil Anti-Laser Eyewear for Cockpits
With pilots reporting 10,994 laser strikes to the FAA in 2025 alone, the threat of cockpit glare has become a persistent safety crisis. Flying Eyes Optics and materials developer Cambium are now responding with a new line of purpose-built, headset-compatible eyewear designed to neutralize green laser light without obscuring instruments.
Hardware integration addresses a long-standing comfort gap in aviation safety gear. Flying Eyes utilizes patented 1mm Resilamide™ temples, which are thin and flexible enough to be worn under headsets or flight helmets without breaking the ear seal or creating painful pressure points. According to Dean Siracusa, CEO of Flying Eyes Optics, the partnership solves a practical dilemma: providing protection that is actually functional for pilots in high-stress environments. Kevin Nottage, Senior Optics Products Manager at Cambium, noted that the lenses are designed to prevent flash blindness during approach, a moment when situational awareness is most vulnerable.
