Emily Harlan Appointed General Counsel at Bandwidth

After eight years of steering complex legal challenges at Bandwidth, Emily Harlan has been promoted to General Counsel and Secretary. She steps into the role held by Brandon Asbill, who oversaw the company’s legal operations during a period of significant international growth before his scheduled retirement at the end of 2026.

Harlan first joined the Raleigh-based cloud communications firm in 2018 as Deputy General Counsel, transitioning from her previous position as outside counsel at the law firm Nixon Peabody LLP. Her tenure at Bandwidth has seen her manage dispute resolution, litigation, and global employment law, eventually serving as the company’s Ethics and Compliance Officer. She reached the rank of Senior Vice President in 2024.

CEO David Morken credited Harlan’s promotion to her deep familiarity with the business and the trust she has cultivated with the Board. As she assumes her new duties, she inherits a department built by Asbill, who will remain with the organization as General Counsel Emeritus until December 31, 2026, to ensure a smooth transition. Asbill departs after a five-year tenure marked by the expansion of the company’s global footprint and the maturation of its internal legal functions.
