UST Acquires Majority Stake in Italdesign to Drive Automotive AI
The automotive landscape is undergoing a fundamental shift toward software-defined vehicles, prompting UST to acquire a majority stake in Italdesign from the Audi Group. By merging Italdesign’s six decades of industrial design heritage with UST’s digital engineering and AI capabilities, the companies aim to streamline the evolution of next-generation mobility.

Vijay Padmanabhan, Chief Financial Officer at UST, emphasized that the investment focuses on Italdesign’s reputation for translating bold concepts into tangible products. Meanwhile, Italdesign CEO Antonio Casu confirmed that the firm will maintain its operational independence and brand identity. The partnership intends to scale these multidisciplinary design services globally, applying Italdesign’s automotive experience to emerging sectors like robotics and aerospace while leveraging UST’s 30,000-strong workforce to accelerate time-to-market for connected vehicle technologies.
