Alif Semiconductor Debuts $49 StartKit for Edge AI Development

Priced at $49, a new series of evaluation boards from Alif Semiconductor aims to lower the barrier for developers working with Edge AI. The release introduces the SK-E1C and SK-B1 kits, designed to provide accessible hardware-accelerated machine learning capabilities for the company’s Ensemble and Balletto microcontroller families.

The new platforms feature the 160MHz Arm Cortex-M55 CPU paired with Helium vector processing and the Ethos-U55 NPU. This architecture is intended to deliver significantly faster inference performance compared to traditional microcontroller cores. Each board comes equipped with 2MB of combined SRAM and MRAM, alongside expansion headers that support Arduino R3 and MikroE Click standards, allowing for modular sensor and audio integration.

Mark Rootz, vice president of marketing at Alif, stated that the company aims to make next-generation AI technology reachable for a broader range of developers. To streamline the prototyping process, the boards include SEGGER J-Link on-board debuggers and dedicated current-sense jumpers for power monitoring. The wireless SK-B1 variant specifically incorporates a tuned chip antenna and RF filter network to support its integrated BLE connectivity.
